US publisher Macmillan hit by cyber attack

0

Publishing giant Macmillan was forced to shut down their network and offices after it was hit with a cyber-attack that appears to be a ransomware attack.

The attack occurred last week with the company shutting down all of their IT systems to prevent the spread of the attack.

Publishers Weekly first reported the incident, after seeing emails from Macmillan which stated that they were hit with a security incident, which involves the encryption of certain files on their network. The use of encryption in the attack suggests that it was a ransomware attack.

Macmillan editors have told agents and clients that they have lost access to their systems, emails, and files.

Even though Macmillan field sales team warned that the disruption could cause delay in book shipments, Macmillan has already started bringing systems back online, with employees now able to access their email.

However, it is not known what ransomware gang is behind the attack and whether data was stolen.
