This Cookie Policy explains which cookies and similar technologies Cybersafe News uses on cybersafe.news, what they do and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as the browser’s local storage, let a website remember information on your device. Cookies set by the website you are visiting are “first-party” cookies; cookies set by another service are “third-party” cookies.
2. How we use cookies
We keep cookies to a minimum. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
- Strictly necessary – needed for security and to remember your cookie choice. These are always active and do not require consent.
- Preferences – remember display choices such as light or dark mode. This is stored only on your device.
- Analytics – we do not currently use any third-party analytics cookies. If we add such a service in future, it will only run after you accept analytics cookies, and this policy will be updated first.
Our own first-party analytics, which helps us understand which articles are read, runs on our servers, sets no cookies and uses no browser storage, and is described in section 4 of our Privacy Policy.
3. The cookies and storage we use
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
cms_pcsrf | First-party cookie · strictly necessary | Security token that protects our comment, newsletter and contact forms against cross-site request forgery. HttpOnly, SameSite=Strict; contains a random value, no personal data. | 7 days |
cms_consent | First-party cookie · strictly necessary | Remembers your cookie choices (which optional categories you accepted or rejected) so we do not ask again on every page. | 180 days |
cms.sid | First-party cookie · strictly necessary | Session cookie used only by our editorial staff when signed in to the newsroom dashboard. It is not set for readers. HttpOnly. | Session (up to 24 hours) |
cms-theme | Local storage · preference | Remembers whether you chose light or dark mode. Stored only in your browser and never sent to our servers. If you have not chosen, we follow your device’s colour-scheme setting. | Until you clear your browser data |
Durations are maximums; you can delete cookies and local storage at any time from your browser settings.
4. Third-party content
Some articles embed videos or other media. YouTube videos are embedded in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), so YouTube does not set cookies until you press play. Once you play embedded content, the provider (for example YouTube/Google) may set its own cookies and process data according to its own policies. Our share buttons are plain links and do not set cookies. Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which does not set cookies.
5. Managing your choices
- On our website: when you first visit, our cookie banner lets you accept all, reject non-essential cookies or choose preferences. You can change your mind at any time using the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.
- In your browser: most browsers let you view, block and delete cookies and site data. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop our forms from working.
- Privacy signals: we honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals for our analytics where this is enabled in our settings.
6. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy if we add, remove or change cookies. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
