Data of 400 Million Twitter users up for sale

A threat actor is claiming to have stolen data of 400 million Twitter users and is offering it for sale on the dark web.

According to Israeli cyber intelligence company, Hudson Rock the database contains information such as email ids and phone number of high profile users like celebrities, politicians, companies, normal users, and a lot of OG and special usernames.

The seller also provided a sample of 1,000 accounts as proof of claims which included the private information of users such as Donald Trump JR, Brian Krebs, and many more.

The seller who is a member of data breach forums named Ryushi, claims the database is private and that it was scraped via a vulnerability.

He has also invited Twitter and Elon Musk to buy the data to avoid GDPR lawsuits. He added that their best option to avoid paying millions in breach fines is to buy this data exclusively.

The seller also announced that the sale is covered by the escrow service offered by the Breached forum administrators (pompompurin).

As of now, it is not possible to verify the claims of the seller. He stated that he is open to a deal going through a middle man. He also assured to delete the thread and not sell the data again.

Ireland’s Data Protection Commission on Friday opened a probe into Twitter over an August data breach that has reportedly impacted 5.4 million Twitter users.
